Ruth Baker

Surgical Nursing

I worked in acute surgery, orthopaedics, trauma and urology for eleven years, the last 5 of which were spent as a Senior E Grade. I then worked in a Clinical Decisions Unit for 6 months as a Senior E Grade. Then in 2000 I became a Site Clinical Manager in a busy general hospital during which time the majority was lone working. I then moved to ITU as a Band 5 nursing very sick patients and being able to recognise the deteriorating patient. I remained in ITU for 7 years and the moved to working in the community which offers new challenges and experiences. Then in October 2021 I decided to semi retire. I feel that with my varied experience I bring a wealth of knowledge and also working as a Critical Care Outreach Nurse as part of the Site Clinical Manager role that I have very good assessment skills which have only been compounded with my time spent in Intensive Care. I have been in charge the majority of my career and have had to make decisions on the care and management of a sick patients and also Operational Issues as a Site Clinical Manager.
